He spent a year in the airforce in 1991 at which time he started his own company TAS
(Technical Application Software), specialising in the development of mechanical engineering software.
He received his Pr Eng in 1992, over the years his main expertise has shifted towards
the pump industry, and 18 years later TAS are now market leaders both
locally and internationally in providing engineering software for the pump industry.
TAS currently employs 10 people in SA,
with a sales and marketing operation in the UK. Harry has built up a close
relationship with senior management at most of the larger pump companies
in SA. In addition, he has close ties with the mining houses, specifically
within the Anglo American group.
Harry is past chairman of the SA
Institution of Mechanical Engineering, Central Branch. One of his key
drives has been the promotion of an energy efficient approach within
industry, through providing training, workshops and the organization of
pump conferences.
In 2006, Harry set up a training company
2KG Training, and through his international contacts was able to secure
experts in the field of mechanical engineering, ready to provide in-house
training to the mechanical engineering industry. These include Larry
Bachus, aka the Pump Guy, as well as three of the leading ASME presenters
from the USA. Glynn Woods, Ron Haupt and Kamran Mokhtarian have all been
active on their respective ASME committees in the ongoing development of
codes and standards such as ASME B31.1, B31.3 and the Section VIII
pressure vessel codes, which they now present to audiences in South
Africa.
For the last 4 years, Harry has been personally presenting a 2 day
workshop on improving the efficiency of pumping systems, drawing on his
experience over the last 20 years in the pump industry. The workshop has
been supported by Eskom and the National Energy Efficiency Agency, as a
valuable tool to help the industry achieve their targeted 10% savings in electricity.
